Corporate Team Building Events
Significant numbers of people dread Corporate Team Building Events for different reasons – Some people actively fear they may be embarrassed and humiliated at one of these events, they may feel as though they are being patronized to pull together and do a great job as if they don’t already, or they may feel they are being forced to “socialize” with their co-workers who they would rather see simply as colleagues – It is ok to view team building events this way.
Corporate Team Building Events at Horse Empower in Durango, Colorado however, are not just social gatherings of fun and games, rather, we customize & structure our Team Building activities to create strategy for the short, medium and long-term future of your team and or to clarify roles and accountability with each other in the team. Replicating real work tasks in this way, as the “exercise”, your team will become a better team in bonding and ensuring that real work gets done. You will be surprised to see your team engagement improve as your team works with the horses, and as the horses become more engaged with you and your team – providing critical and instant feedback. We have found time and time again, that everyone who participates in Horse Empowers dynamic and powerful corporate team building events, truly enjoy and value their offsite learning experience with us. We facilitate with purpose and structure meeting our targets – which are your targets, every time – Bulls Eye!
She stood with her arms crossed, lips clenched and leg cocked in our initial introductory circle up. I could clearly see by her body language, she wanted nothing to do with her departments’ offsite team building event and she wasn’t buying in – no way, no how. Then suddenly, after Laura introduced herself, she proclaimed “I’m really not into all the rah-rah stuff. We’re not going to have to join arms and Kumbaya and all that are we? I drew a big smile, and with an internal chuckle I replied “we’re not really the “Kumbaya” type at Horse Empower – but at some point, throughout the day, you may find joining arms helpful and if you do, feel free”.
On their last exercise of the day, Laura’s team was struggling to accomplish their assigned task – 4-5 tries had already gone by and the team was frustrated, moral was plummeting. I called a time out and suggested they circle up to share ideas of what was working and not working. How might you find success I asked? Visualize it. Some of the same ideas they had already tried were presented again, perhaps in a different way (I always love the lesson to be found in Albert Einstein’s definition of Insanity) – when suddenly Laura piped up with “Hey, if we join arms, and share the lead ropes we will stay together and finish together!” I was not about to remind her of the “Kumbaya” thing, but the irony whose idea it was to join arms had me internally chuckling once again and it was a great idea – it was an idea that led the team to success, completing the task proficiently, with precise execution. Moral instantly skyrocketed as they celebrated together, realizing through the debriefing process that they were a strong team already and had all the strengths on the team they needed in their members – they just had to actively listen, to communicate in more effective ways with one another and capitalize one each other’s innate talents and knowledge. And, when all else fails – thinking “outside of the box” was a true asset and skill to be learned!
